The Saudi Press Agency reported that the Haramain High-Speed Railway Station in Madinah has witnessed intense operational demands as it facilitates travel for pilgrims completing their rituals. Officials at the facility coordinated multiple daily departures and arrivals to accommodate the flow of passengers between the holy cities. Saudi Railways expanded overall seating capacity on the line to more than 2.21 million for the 2026 Hajj season, a move that supported smoother movements across the network. The rail link spans 453 kilometers and connects Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah and King Abdulaziz International Airport at speeds reaching 300 kilometers per hour.

Saudi Railways data places the number of passengers carried by the Haramain High-Speed Railway at more than 670,000 since the launch of the Hajj operational plan. That volume reflects sustained demand during the season, when many pilgrims opt for the train to avoid road congestion between the two cities. The operator ran additional services, including late-night departures up to 2:45 a.m., to meet peak travel periods. Such scheduling helped distribute passenger loads and reduced waiting times at the Madinah terminal.

The railway forms a central part of Saudi Arabia’s transport infrastructure for religious visitors, according to the Saudi Press Agency. Stations feature integrated logistics, advanced ticketing systems and dedicated support staff trained to assist international pilgrims. Previous seasons showed similar spikes in activity, with the 1447 AH Hajj recording over 1.16 million passengers on the same line. Those figures underscore the network’s growing role in managing large-scale religious tourism.

Operations at the Madinah station included enhanced security checks, medical support points and clear signage in multiple languages to ease navigation for arriving and departing travelers. Saudi Railways coordinated closely with pilgrimage authorities to align train timetables with ritual schedules in Makkah and Mina. The result has been fewer bottlenecks compared with earlier years when road transport dominated pilgrim movements. Maintenance teams remained on standby throughout the period to ensure service reliability.

Ticket pricing for the Madinah to Makkah route starts above 150 Saudi riyals for standard class, with journey times averaging two hours and 20 minutes. The Saudi Press Agency noted that many pilgrims praised the comfort and speed relative to alternative transport options. Regional comparisons show the Haramain system handles volumes comparable to major GCC rail projects during peak religious events. Industry assessments project continued expansion of such services to match rising visitor numbers in future seasons.
