The two officials discussed the latest developments on regional and international fronts along with ongoing efforts aimed at addressing them. The meeting took place in the Japanese capital. It was attended by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ Ambassador to Japan, Dr. Ghazi bin Faisal bin Zaqr.
According to records from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Uemura has served as Special Envoy for Middle East Peace since at least 2024 and has engaged with various regional stakeholders on the situation surrounding Israel and Palestine. In a July 2025 international conference, the Japanese envoy expressed deep concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza. Uemura also held talks on that occasion with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa to discuss Japan-Palestine cooperation.
A statement from Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the June 2026 memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran while stressing the importance of swiftly reestablishing free and safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
