The Saudi Press Agency reported that Prince Mohammed bin Salman received the telephone call from Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan on Tuesday. In the conversation the Crown Prince reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to Sudan’s stability while preserving its sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity. He expressed support for initiatives that advance comprehensive development and enable displaced persons together with refugees to return to their homes.
The exchange highlights the Kingdom’s ongoing diplomatic engagement on Sudan that dates to the early months of the conflict. According to the US Department of State the Jeddah Declaration signed in May 2023 with facilitation from Saudi Arabia and the United States committed the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces to protect civilians and facilitate humanitarian aid. Violations of those commitments have since hindered progress toward a durable ceasefire.
International Organization for Migration data places the number of internally displaced persons inside Sudan at approximately 8.8 million as of mid-2026 with millions more having fled as refugees to neighboring states. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has separately documented a sharp rise in crossings into Chad from Sudan with more than 400 people arriving daily in recent weeks amid fighting in Darfur and Kordofan. These movements have strained resources in host communities and compounded an already severe humanitarian emergency.
The Saudi Press Agency noted that the Crown Prince’s position aligns with remarks delivered by Saudi Arabia’s permanent representative to the United Nations in June. Ambassador Abdulaziz Alwasil told a Security Council session that any resolution of the crisis must rest on a Sudanese-led political process rooted in the Jeddah Declaration. He condemned attacks on humanitarian convoys and expressed concern over the situation in El Fasher while pledging continued Saudi humanitarian assistance.
Saudi officials have consistently rejected measures that could fragment Sudan or weaken its state institutions according to repeated statements carried by the Saudi Press Agency. The Kingdom has welcomed parallel regional and international initiatives that seek a permanent end to hostilities without compromising Sudanese sovereignty. Such efforts include coordination with partners in the Quad for Sudan that encompasses Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and the United States.
The phone call arrives three years after the conflict erupted in April 2023 and continues to drive one of the world’s largest displacement crises. The Saudi Press Agency has reported that Riyadh remains focused on bringing Sudanese parties back to dialogue while supporting stability across the Horn of Africa. Officials have emphasized that only an inclusive political settlement can address the root causes of the violence and permit long-term reconstruction.
