The Saudi Press Agency reported that Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman sent separate cables to UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Saturday to mark the anniversary of the UAE’s Union Day. The king and the crown prince both wished the president good health and happiness. They also expressed hopes for continued progress and prosperity for the UAE government and its people.

King Salman praised the strong fraternal relations between Saudi Arabia and the UAE in his cable. The message further reaffirmed the two sides’ commitment to strengthening cooperation across all fields. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman conveyed parallel sentiments in his own communication.

The UAE observes Union Pledge Day on July 18 to commemorate the 1971 signing of the union agreement by the founding fathers, according to the UAE government’s published history. President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan introduced the day in recent years as a tribute to that event. This year’s anniversary included various national activities focused on the theme of unity.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE are both members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, which the official GCC history dates to its founding meeting in Abu Dhabi in May 1981. The council aims to foster coordination among its six Arab Gulf states in economic, political and security affairs. Bilateral ties between the kingdom and the federation have intensified in the decades since.

The Saudi Press Agency released the content of the congratulatory cables on July 19. Similar messages have been sent in prior years on the occasion, according to archives of the agency.
