The General Organization for Social Insurance placed the total number of active subscribers on payroll under the kingdom’s social insurance systems at 13.99 million as of the end of June this year. Private sector registrations reached 13.35 million during the period, equivalent to 95 percent of the full count according to data compiled with the General Authority for Statistics. Government sector subscribers numbered 639,000 while the overall figure reflected steady expansion from preceding quarters.
Riyadh accounted for 7.24 million subscribers or 52 percent of the national total, the General Organization for Social Insurance figures showed. The Eastern Province followed with 2.45 million insured employees and the Makkah region registered 2.2 million. This geographic distribution underscores the concentration of workforce activity in the kingdom’s primary urban and industrial centers according to the authority’s breakdown.
Saudi citizens comprised 3.17 million subscribers or 23 percent of the insured workforce with expatriates making up the remaining 10.82 million or 77 percent, the General Authority for Statistics data indicated. The nationality proportions have shown consistency with those published in the authority’s reports from earlier in the year. Private sector dominance at 95 percent has likewise remained unchanged from multiple prior quarterly releases by the same bodies.
During the April-to-June period 245,600 individuals suspended their social insurance subscriptions the General Organization for Social Insurance reported. Saudi citizens accounted for 103,400 or 42 percent of the suspensions while non-Saudis totaled 142,100 or 58 percent. These suspension figures form part of the regular labor market metrics tracked by the statistical authority in coordination with the insurance organization.
The second-quarter subscriber count represented a slight increase from the 13.95 million recorded at the end of the first quarter of 2026 according to successive General Authority for Statistics updates. Private sector participation has stayed near 95 percent across these reports which have documented growth from 12.9 million total subscribers in the second quarter of 2025. The General Organization for Social Insurance administers the scheme providing pension disability and related benefits to the registered population.
Earlier General Authority for Statistics estimates for the same quarter showed non-oil activities expanding by 0.9 percent year on year alongside comparable growth in government operations. Such economic indicators align with the gradual rise in insured workers detailed in the social insurance data. The authority continues to issue these quarterly statistics to inform assessments of employment and social protection trends.
