The Saudi Press Agency reported that Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Saleh Al-Jasser and Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu signed the memorandum of understanding in Riyadh on June 9, 2026. Transport General Authority President Fawaz Al-Sahli attended the ceremony along with other officials from the Saudi transport and logistics sector. The agreement establishes a framework for bilateral work on rail systems between the Kingdom and Türkiye.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, the memorandum centers on cooperation regarding railway standards, technologies and innovations. It calls for the exchange of expertise and knowledge to support development in both countries’ rail sectors. The pact was concluded in the presence of representatives from relevant agencies on both sides.
A previous memorandum between the Saudi Railway Company and Turkish State Railways focused on maintenance, infrastructure and training programs, the Saudi Press Agency has noted in earlier dispatches. The latest understanding expands on those foundations with emphasis on standards alignment and technological integration. Saudi officials have described such partnerships as key to advancing national rail objectives.
The Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services has pursued expansion of the Kingdom’s rail network under the National Transport and Logistics Strategy to support economic growth targets. This includes both passenger and freight lines designed to improve connectivity across the region. Saudi Arabia aims to increase the role of rail in its overall transport mix through these initiatives.
Türkiye has developed an extensive railway network that incorporates modern high-speed services and freight corridors linking to European markets, according to its Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. The country has invested in upgrades such as digital systems and expanded capacity in recent years. This background provides a basis for the technical exchanges outlined in the new memorandum.
The Saudi Press Agency indicated that the two sides also addressed related logistics cooperation in parallel discussions. A separate memorandum signed around the same period covered logistics services, policy exchanges and regulatory alignment. Officials from both nations plan continued engagement to advance the agreed areas of collaboration.
