The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Prince Faisal bin Farhan participated in the gathering alongside Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. The session took place on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly. Discussions addressed recent regional developments while underscoring the value of sustained diplomatic coordination to ease tensions and support stability across multiple fronts.

According to the ministry, the ministers reviewed efforts to de-escalate tensions with particular attention to Pakistan’s mediation tied to a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran. They examined the Israeli military escalation against Lebanon and highlighted the need to maintain the diplomatic track to limit any further crisis repercussions. The participants stressed intensifying consultations among the four countries to help restore security throughout the region.

The Regional Quartet has developed into a regular consultative platform since its earlier sessions, a process that an Egyptian official described to Mada Masr as a serious forum for coordination among states whose views largely align. In a meeting held in Cairo in June, the same group focused on Gulf security, Lebanon, the Red Sea and preserving territorial integrity across the Mashriq, according to a Mada Masr report that noted the quartet formed after the US-Israeli war on Iran. The Egyptian official and a Pakistani source told the publication that the four main discussion topics included broader regional security questions.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty characterized the quartet after one of its previous meetings as a collaborative platform dedicated to enhancing Middle East security and lowering escalations through objective political solutions, Egypt Today reported. He noted that the framework is not directed against any country while emphasizing daily coordination to uphold principles of non-aggression, respect for sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs. Abdelatty’s briefing with diplomatic correspondents followed an extended session with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the other three ministers.

Prince Faisal’s participation forms part of Saudi Arabia’s wider delegation to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, where the Kingdom has reiterated its commitment to multilateral work on peace and security. The Saudi Press Agency reported that the delegation includes Ambassador to the United States Princess Reema bint Bandar, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir and other senior officials engaged in bilateral talks. Saudi Arabia’s involvement reflects its ongoing push to promote dialogue and address shared regional and international challenges.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that the New York meeting would contribute to continued coordination among the quartet members in the weeks ahead. A separate report from Egypt Today quoted Abdelatty saying the four states aim to enforce foundational international principles through their joint efforts. The group has held six ministerial meetings to date, building a track record of consultation on issues that affect stability from the Gulf to the Red Sea.
