Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan received separate telephone calls from his UAE and Malaysian counterparts who strongly condemned Houthi attacks on the Kingdom, according to an announcement from the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs. UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan specifically denounced the Houthi militia’s strikes on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh during his conversation with Prince Faisal. The two ministers reviewed recent regional developments and their wider implications as well as joint efforts to tackle them.
Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan similarly condemned the Houthi militia’s attacks that targeted civilians in Saudi Arabia in a distinct call with Prince Faisal. Hasan reiterated Malaysia’s solidarity with the Kingdom and its backing for steps to protect Saudi sovereignty, security, stability and population. The discussion also touched on bilateral relations alongside regional and international matters of shared concern.
The UAE had already issued an earlier statement through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemning the continued Houthi targeting of King Khalid International Airport which injured civilians and disrupted operations. Khaleej Times reported that the UAE described the assaults as a flagrant violation of Saudi sovereignty and a direct threat to regional security and stability. The ministry expressed full solidarity with Riyadh and extended condolences to victims’ families while wishing the injured a swift recovery.
Al Jazeera reported that the deadliest recent Houthi strike on the Riyadh airport killed at least 12 people of multiple nationalities including Saudis, Egyptians, Jordanians, Syrians, Palestinians, Sudanese, Americans and Bangladeshis while wounding around 300 others. The attacks form part of an escalation amid renewed clashes in Yemen where the Saudi-led coalition supports government forces against the Iran-backed Houthis. Saudi authorities have responded with airstrikes on Houthi targets and vowed further action to safeguard civilian infrastructure.
The National noted that the UAE has repeatedly affirmed its support for all Saudi measures aimed at defending its territory following multiple Houthi drone and missile strikes on airports including facilities in Abha. These diplomatic exchanges build on Prince Faisal’s ongoing engagement with partners to push for a political resolution to the Yemen conflict. Such coordination underscores the broad international rejection of attacks on civilian sites and commercial aviation.
Asharq Al-Awsat reported that the calls between the three foreign ministers also addressed ways to mitigate the repercussions of the violence on broader Gulf stability. The UAE and Malaysia have maintained longstanding partnerships with Saudi Arabia in economic, security and cultural domains that have grown deeper in recent years. The latest expressions of support arrive as the Saudi-led coalition detailed operations that destroyed dozens of Houthi military sites in Yemen.
