Regional data released by the Heritage Commission highlighted Madinah with 388 new sites that elevated its count to 2,128. The Tabuk region followed with 209 additions for a total of 1,387 while Najran incorporated 186 sites to reach 478. Makkah received 87 new registrations bringing the provincial total to 1,306 according to the commission’s update. Hail gained 130 sites to arrive at 1,030, Al-Jouf 131 to 699 and Asir 42 to 901.

The Heritage Commission described the additions as part of its work to preserve national heritage. Commission figures now place the overall register at 14,164 sites following the August 3 announcement. The authority has conducted similar registration campaigns across multiple provinces in successive years.

An October 2025 announcement covered by Asharq Al-Awsat recorded the Heritage Commission’s registration of 1,516 new sites at that time. The Media Line reported in April 2024 that an addition of 70 sites had increased the total to 8,917. Arab News noted a further 198 sites added in November 2024 that brought the register to more than 9,300. These updates from the commission reflect continued expansion of the official catalog.

The Heritage Commission operates registration drives that survey and document locations throughout the kingdom. Its announcements consistently break down new sites by region and provide updated provincial totals. The latest figures exclude several provinces that did not receive additions in this batch according to the published data.

Earlier registration totals compiled from Heritage Commission statements show steady growth in documented archaeological resources over the past two years. The authority’s process involves verification of sites that range from ancient settlements to historical landmarks. Updates are issued periodically as field work and assessments conclude.
