Light showers are also forecast around Taif in the Makkah region and northern Asir during the afternoon hours.
An assessment from the National Center for Meteorology found that rainfall will intensify to moderate and heavy levels across Jazan and western Asir between afternoon and evening on Thursday, with thunderstorms developing along the Asir-Jazan border. This activity is expected to weaken and clear by late evening, leading to no further rain until Friday morning when light showers resume over southern Asir and eastern Jazan. The center’s data indicates moderate rainfall will then cover most of Jazan on Friday afternoon.
According to the center’s data, lighter showers will appear east of Taif and in northwestern Asir on Friday, while rainfall over western Asir intensifies later that afternoon as activity over Jazan weakens. On Saturday morning, light rain is anticipated over a small area east of Taif and parts of western Asir. Heavier showers near Jazan city and a section of Asir’s coast are expected by early Saturday evening.
The National Center for Meteorology forecast indicates scattered light showers will then affect parts of Makkah, Al-Baha, Asir and Jazan later in the evening on Saturday. The outlook covers varying intensities across the southwestern provinces through the end of the period. Climate records maintained by the center show the Asir region receives an average annual rainfall of about 300 millimeters, mainly in summer due to monsoon circulation and regional topography.
