In the Al-Daer sector of Jazan region, Saudi Border Guard land patrols arrested four Ethiopian and Yemeni border security violators who were attempting to smuggle 60 kilograms of khat. The General Directorate of Border Guard reported that the suspects were detained along with the narcotics during routine operations. Officials stated that preliminary legal procedures have been completed and both the individuals and the seized material were handed over to the competent authorities for further action.
A separate patrol in the same Jazan sector intercepted an attempt to bring in 112,350 tablets subject to medical circulation regulations. The directorate’s statement detailed how the operation prevented the controlled substances from entering the local market. Such interdictions form part of systematic monitoring along the border to curb the flow of regulated pharmaceuticals.
Border Guard units in the Al-Raboua sector of Asir region simultaneously foiled a smuggling effort involving approximately 24 kilograms of hashish. According to the General Directorate of Border Guard, patrols acted swiftly to confiscate the consignment during standard security sweeps. The hashish seizure was processed under established protocols before transfer to relevant agencies.
The General Directorate of Border Guard urged the public to cooperate by reporting any information on smuggling or security violations through designated channels. These include numbers 911, 999 and 994 for border-related tips as well as 995 for the General Directorate of Narcotics Control. All reports may also be submitted via official email, with the directorate guaranteeing confidentiality for every informant.
These latest actions align with the kingdom’s broader anti-trafficking initiatives along its southern frontiers. The Saudi Press Agency has reported that a series of Border Guard operations in December 2024 netted 1.3 tons of hashish, 1,388,622 narcotic pills and 136 tons of khat across multiple sectors. That earlier campaign, which also led to numerous arrests, illustrates the scale of ongoing efforts documented by the official news agency.
Patrols continue to focus on remote sectors where violators often attempt crossings, the directorate noted in its update. Coordination between border units and other security bodies ensures comprehensive handling of each case from interception to prosecution. The General Directorate of Border Guard maintains these operations as a core element of national security strategy.
