The strikes caused minor to moderate injuries to the 13 civilians and inflicted damage on seven houses and two vehicles, according to a statement from coalition spokesman Major General Turki Al-Malki. In the announcement on social media, Al-Malki described the actions as deliberate targeting of civilian objects by the Iran-backed group. The coalition added that its joint forces would respond responsibly and firmly to safeguard the kingdom’s sovereignty and protect civilians in line with international law and the principle of self-defense.

This latest exchange forms part of an escalating pattern of cross-border attacks that has continued despite periodic attempts at truce negotiations in the Yemen conflict. Coalition figures from September 8 placed the number of civilians injured in a prior wave of similar Houthi strikes at more than 70, including women and children across multiple southern Saudi locations. Saudi Civil Defense authorities had issued emergency alerts for Khamis Mushait and Abha on the night of September 14 before expanding warnings to areas including Yanbu, Jeddah, Jazan and Alula the following day.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree issued a separate claim on September 14 that his forces had conducted a large-scale operation inside Saudi territory in response to what he described as 54 Saudi airstrikes on five Yemeni provinces in the previous 24 hours. Saree specified that the alleged Saudi aircraft included F-15 and Typhoon jets operating from bases within the kingdom. The dueling statements highlight the persistent cycle of retaliatory claims that has defined much of the fighting since the Saudi-led intervention began in 2015.

Arab News reported that Al-Malki framed the Houthi militia’s approach as reflective of an extremist ideology centered on escalation against civilian targets. The coalition spokesman reiterated that operations would continue to deter further attacks while remaining within the bounds of Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. A report in The Hindu noted that the announcement followed recent diplomatic contacts in which Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman discussed regional security with U.S. Central Command leadership amid ongoing Houthi threats.

The incidents have renewed focus on the vulnerability of civilian infrastructure in southern Saudi Arabia to long-range drone and missile systems. TRT World coverage indicated that the coalition has repeatedly accused the Houthis of deliberately striking non-military sites, a charge the group denies in its own public statements. Jerusalem Post reporting added that the attacks occurred against a backdrop of Saudi efforts to secure additional international support for countering the militia’s capabilities.

Damage assessments from the September 14 strikes remain limited to the initial coalition tally of affected homes and vehicles, with no further updates released on the condition of those injured. The coalition’s statement, which originated on the platform X, has been echoed across multiple regional and international outlets including The Jerusalem Post and Siasat Daily. Authorities have not disclosed additional details on interception rates or the precise origins of the launched munitions.
