The Saudi Press Agency reported that Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah reached New York to chair the Saudi delegation participating in the high-level segment of the General Assembly’s 81st session. The move aligns with the Kingdom’s ongoing emphasis on multilateral diplomacy at a time when the United Nations has convened its annual gathering under the theme of restoring trust and managing global transformation. Saudi officials plan a series of bilateral meetings with counterparts from allied nations and international bodies during the visit that began this weekend.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the delegation includes Ambassador Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan, the Kingdom’s envoy to the United States, along with Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir. Also joining are Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah, supervisor general of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, Deputy Minister for Multilateral Affairs Dr. Abdulrahman bin Ibrahim Al-Rassi and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Wasil. The group further encompasses officials from the health and foreign ministries as well as climate envoys, forming a cross-sector team equipped to address the session’s wide agenda.

The Saudi Press Agency stated that the Kingdom’s involvement reflects its commitment to bolstering international cooperation and advancing multilateral efforts on priority global issues. Delegation members intend to engage in discussions covering the General Assembly’s formal agenda while pursuing coordination on regional stability and collaborative solutions to pressing challenges. Such participation builds on Saudi Arabia’s established record of contributing to UN initiatives across humanitarian, developmental and security domains.

A statement from the office of General Assembly President Khalilur Rahman of Bangladesh described the 81st session’s central theme as “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All.” The president’s priorities, outlined ahead of the high-level week running from September 22 to 28, center on strengthening peace and security, accelerating progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals and ensuring no country is left behind in global reforms. With the 2030 Agenda entering its final stretch, the session aims to close financing gaps and reform international financial systems, particularly for vulnerable economies.

The Saudi Press Agency noted that the delegation will also explore avenues to support conflict resolution and sustainable development during its stay in New York. Saudi Arabia has consistently ranked among top global humanitarian donors through mechanisms such as the King Salman Center, whose supervisor is part of the current delegation. This year’s engagement occurs as the United Nations seeks measurable outcomes in peacekeeping, climate action and equitable growth amid ongoing international tensions.
