Rashad al-Alimi the chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council condemned a Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport that killed several people and injured hundreds including foreign nationals. In a statement posted on X and published on the presidentialalimi.net website Al-Alimi extended condolences to Saudi Arabia’s leadership the families of victims and those injured while wishing the wounded a swift recovery. He described the strike as a cowardly terrorist act that showed the Houthis’ disregard for civilian lives and regional stability.
Al-Alimi stated that the security of Saudi Arabia and Yemen along with the interests of their peoples are intertwined. He added that any attack on the kingdom also targets Yemen’s security interests and the future of its generations. The Presidential Leadership Council website reported that Al-Alimi spoke on behalf of the council members the government and the Yemeni people in issuing the message of solidarity.
The Yemeni leader reaffirmed commitment to the Dawn of Yemen operation to eliminate the Houthi terrorist threat and restore state institutions regardless of the cost. Al-Alimi praised Saudi Arabia’s ongoing fraternal support for Yemen including economic aid and efforts to ease humanitarian suffering. He highlighted recent Saudi measures to support Yemen’s budget and facilitate residency arrangements for Yemeni nationals living in the kingdom.
Al Jazeera reported that Al-Alimi announced the launch of military operations on October 4 to retake Houthi-held territory and extend state authority across Yemen. In that address he instructed armed forces and security units to execute approved plans until the country achieves full liberation from the militias. The operations followed what he described as exhaustive peace efforts that the Houthis met with further escalation.
Earlier statements by Al-Alimi have consistently linked security across Yemen Saudi Arabia and neighboring states. In a September address covered by DNA News Agency he urged international support to secure Yemen’s coasts and prevent arms smuggling into the region noting that Red Sea stability forms a shared responsibility. Those remarks came as Houthi actions disrupted maritime traffic and affected broader Gulf security dynamics.
The Presidential Leadership Council which Saudi Arabia backs has faced repeated challenges from Houthi advances and internal divisions with separatist groups. Al Jazeera accounts detail how Saudi-backed forces retook positions in southern governorates earlier this year after clashes that killed scores of fighters. Al-Alimi’s latest message underscores the enduring coordination between Yemeni government forces and the Saudi-led coalition amid ongoing hostilities.
