Speedtest Intelligence data for June 2026 showed Saudi Arabia outperforming many G20 peers including the United States, China, Japan and several European nations in mobile internet speeds. The Kingdom secured third position within the G20 bloc on this metric based on the December 2025 assessment with similar trends continuing. Global rank of eighth reflects significant advancements in telecommunications infrastructure over the past years.
The median mobile download speed stood at 228 Mbps while upload speeds averaged 17 Mbps with latency around 28 ms, the Ookla report detailed. Fixed broadband speeds lagged with a global rank of 45 and median download of 175 Mbps in one measurement. These statistics are derived from extensive user-generated speed tests compiled monthly by the company.
In an earlier February 2025 report, Opensignal ranked Saudi Arabia third globally for 5G download speeds with an average of 244 Mbps, only behind South Korea and Brazil. The analysis also put the Kingdom 11th overall in mobile network excellence among large countries. Saudi Arabia ranked second among G20 countries for spectrum allocation according to that assessment.
The Communications, Space and Technology Commission announced in May 2025 that Saudi Arabia held fourth place among G20 countries with average mobile internet speed of 129 Mbps at the time. This announcement came during the 11th edition of the Communications and Technology Indicators Forum in Riyadh. Subsequent data indicates further improvement in these figures.
GCC countries including the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia have featured prominently in global mobile internet speed rankings throughout 2026 according to various reports. Saudi Arabia’s placement has been among the highest within the G20 group in assessments by Ookla. Multiple independent reports have confirmed the upward trajectory in network performance metrics across recent months.
A review by Opensignal noted Saudi Arabia’s 10th place for 4G/5G availability and strong 5G performance as key contributors to its standing. The Kingdom has focused on expanding 5G networks since their launch several years ago. Such developments have been tracked by global benchmarking firms as indicators of progress in the sector.
