The Saudi Literature Publishing and Translation Commission opened registration for local and international publishers seeking to participate in the Riyadh International Book Fair scheduled to run from December 10 to 19 2026 in the Saudi capital. A statement from the commission invited interested houses and institutions to submit applications through a dedicated online link before the October 1 deadline. The commission described the fair as a major annual cultural gathering that assembles creators from across the publishing translation and literary fields to elevate the book industry and encourage reading across society.

Syria was selected as guest of honour for the 2026 edition a decision announced by Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan the Minister of Culture and chairman of the commission board. The minister stated that the choice underscores the depth of Saudi-Syrian cultural relations based on mutual partnership and respect while advancing Vision 2030 goals for creative dialogue between peoples. He added that Syrian culture with its richness and diversity will enrich the fair’s activities and create interactive opportunities for audiences and intellectuals from both countries.

The commission reported that the fair will host an intensive cultural programme consisting of dialogue sessions training workshops and intellectual lectures featuring prominent thinkers academics and experts from inside the kingdom and abroad. Publishers will use the platform to display their newest intellectual and literary releases in a rich cultural environment according to the commission. The event also continues the dedicated Saudi Author Corner which the commission established to help local writers market self-published works that carry their own distribution rights directly to readers and enthusiasts.

Since its formation the commission has organised the fair as a key component of national efforts to strengthen the publishing sector and reinforce literature’s contribution to knowledge and culture the body stated. A commission assessment of recent editions found steadily rising international participation that has helped establish the Riyadh event among the region’s largest by visitor numbers and programme diversity. The December dates were chosen following a postponement from an earlier October window allowing broader global involvement without clashing with other literary calendars.

The commission has maintained the children’s pavilion alongside the author corner to deliver interactive activities and workshops focused on youth literature. Such features have become central to the fair’s appeal according to the commission which noted their role in building reading habits from an early age. Further specifics on exhibitors and side events will be released as registration progresses and the programme takes final shape in the weeks ahead.
