The Royal Commission for Riyadh City announced the start of traffic diversions on August 2, 2026, marking the launch of construction for four bridges along Jeddah Road. These diversions will affect sections near the intersections with Prince Bandar bin Abdulaziz Road, Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz Al Awwal Road and Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz Al Thani Road. The commission has published a map detailing open roads, temporary routes and closed sections to guide drivers during the works. Motorists can obtain additional information by contacting the unified number 19998, RCRC stated.
The four bridges will have a combined length of 990 meters with four traffic lanes in each direction upon completion. According to the commission, the development seeks to enhance traffic flow, increase the efficiency of the axis and improve connectivity with the road network in Riyadh. This phase represents an important step in modernizing the city’s major thoroughfares to accommodate growing urban demands.
This Jeddah Road initiative forms part of the third phase of the Riyadh main and ring roads development projects. The Saudi Press Agency reported in December 2025 that the full Jeddah Road Development Project covers 29 kilometers and will include a total of 14 bridges. It is designed to expand capacity to up to 353,000 vehicles per day once finished.
Construction firm Sapac secured the contract for the Jeddah Road segment, as detailed in updates from industry sources following the package award late last year. The overall third phase, valued at around SR8 billion, encompasses several key corridors including Taif Road and Thumama Road along with engineering upgrades at multiple congested locations. Completion of this phase is scheduled for three to four years from the initial announcements, the Royal Commission for Riyadh City indicated.
The project aligns with broader infrastructure goals under Saudi Vision 2030 to improve quality of life and economic efficiency in the capital. Previous phases have focused on similar road expansions to reduce congestion across Riyadh. The commission continues to coordinate with relevant authorities to minimize disruptions during the construction period.
