The Saudi Foreign Ministry announced that Prince Faisal bin Farhan held a phone call with Antonio Tajani to review the latest developments in the region. The two top diplomats examined international efforts aimed at implementing the two-state solution while seeking a just and lasting peace in the Middle East. They also touched on the importance of maritime security and freedom of navigation as key elements of regional stability.

The French Foreign Ministry has detailed how Saudi Arabia co-hosted a major conference in 2025 that advanced recommendations for security, reconstruction and political pathways to statehood for Palestine. Italy played a direct role in that process by co-chairing the working group on security guarantees for both Israelis and Palestinians alongside Indonesia according to conference records from the United Nations. This conversation takes place within a wider framework of international diplomacy on the Israeli-Palestinian issue.

According to a Gulf Research Center commentary bilateral trade volume between the two countries hit $9.04 billion in 2024 with Italian exports dominating at over $8 billion in sectors such as machinery and pharmaceuticals. The assessment further indicated that more than 150 Italian firms are active in the Saudi market and new investment licenses for Italian businesses increased by 110 percent that year. Bilateral relations between Saudi Arabia and Italy have grown substantially in recent years.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry added that the ministers agreed to strengthen cooperation across various domains during their discussion. The Italian Foreign Ministry has reported that bilateral trade has surged by 67 percent over the past five years with Italian exports to Saudi Arabia growing nearly 20 percent annually since 2022. This positions the Kingdom as a key market for Rome in the Middle East and North Africa region.

A 2024 G7 foreign ministers statement that included Italy reaffirmed commitment to two democratic states living side by side in peace and security within recognized borders. Saudi Arabia has similarly maintained this position while co-leading recent international initiatives with European partners to revive the peace process. The call reflects continued alignment on the two-state solution which both countries have supported in multilateral forums.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry readout further highlighted shared concerns over regional tensions that threaten to derail progress toward peace. International efforts have intensified following the adoption of the New York Declaration in 2025 that laid groundwork for renewed diplomacy on the conflict. The ministers’ exchange contributes to ongoing coordination between Gulf and European actors on these critical files.
