The committee has scheduled a training camp for the athletes in Fuji, Japan, from August 29 to October 3 to ensure adequate preparation ahead of the competition. This move forms part of a broader strategy to optimize the delegation’s readiness for the multi-sport event. Officials expect the camp to allow teams to adjust to the climate and venues they will encounter during the games.

Saudi Arabia debuted at the Asian Games in 1978 in Bangkok and has taken part in every edition since. According to the Olympic Council of Asia, the kingdom has collected 29 gold medals, 15 silver medals and 27 bronze medals throughout its history at the competition. The tally ranks Saudi Arabia 20th on the all-time medal table for the event.

Arab News reported that Saudi Arabia sent 188 athletes, including 19 women, to the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2023. The smaller contingent of 144 athletes for 2026 indicates a selective process focused on the 19 national teams with the strongest potential. The committee is expected to reveal the precise list of sports and competitors in the weeks ahead.

The Aichi-Nagoya games will feature competitions in numerous disciplines across the prefecture. Japan as host nation plans to field around 900 athletes, preliminary data from the Olympic Council of Asia shows. Delegations from more than 40 other countries will join the two-week festival of sport.

The Saudi Press Agency helped distribute the official announcement, which quickly gained coverage from regional news outlets. The participation aligns with Saudi Arabia’s continued efforts to develop its sporting infrastructure and athlete pathways. Updates on the final delegation composition will be provided by the committee as qualifying concludes.
