Prince Faisal bin Farhan delivered his address at the Ministerial Meeting in Support of Jerusalem and its Holy Sites convened in the Jordanian capital. He described the protection of Jerusalem as extending beyond religious and humanitarian considerations to become essential for any sustainable resolution in the region. The foreign minister called on the international community to adopt concrete measures halting what he termed illegal policies and practices in occupied areas, according to accounts from the gathering.
“Protecting Jerusalem is not only a religious or humanitarian issue but a fundamental pillar for any just and lasting peace,” Prince Faisal bin Farhan said during the proceedings. He stated that all unilateral measures taken by Israel in the Palestinian territories are null and void. The minister denounced violations in the Gaza Strip and said such actions represent a direct challenge to peace efforts, a dispatch from the Saudi Press Agency indicated.
Before the main session, Prince Faisal bin Farhan held a bilateral meeting with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi. The two officials reviewed the latest developments in both the West Bank and Gaza Strip along with ongoing diplomatic initiatives. Their discussion also touched on ways to strengthen coordination between the two countries on regional matters.
The gathering drew foreign ministers and senior representatives from numerous Arab and Islamic nations including Egypt, Turkey, Qatar, Algeria, Pakistan, Iraq, Tunisia and Somalia, The National reported. Jordanian authorities positioned the meeting as an opportunity to build a unified response to measures affecting Jerusalem’s identity and its Islamic and Christian sanctities. The Jordanian Foreign Ministry said discussions centered on latest escalations at sites such as Al Aqsa mosque and the need for coordinated international action.
Prince Faisal bin Farhan praised Jordan’s established role in safeguarding the holy places in Jerusalem. “The Kingdom confirms that justifying violence and inciting it on the basis of religious or doctrinal claims is a serious deviation from the shared values of the Abrahamic religions and runs counter to the principles of equality in human dignity and the sanctity of human life,” he added in his remarks. The Saudi foreign minister reiterated support for Palestinian rights and efforts to achieve a just settlement based on international legitimacy.
The session builds upon an Arab League committee established in 2017 and chaired by Jordan that coordinates responses to developments in occupied Jerusalem, according to The National. Jordan has maintained custodianship over Al Aqsa mosque since the 1920s, a responsibility that remains central to its regional policy. Attendees stressed the importance of preserving the historical status quo at the holy sites amid continued tensions.
