The Saudi Press Agency reported that Minister of Health Fahad Al-Jalajel participated in the annual national blood donation campaign for 2026 by donating blood at its launch. Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman initiated the drive and also donated, setting an example for the public. Al-Jalajel explained that the initiative has made blood donation a community culture that grows through participation and is renewed through giving.
Last year’s national campaign produced a broad health and social impact that quadrupled the number of donors. Voluntary donations accounted for 100 percent of all contributions while new donors represented more than 85 percent of participants. These outcomes reflect an expanding donor base and the deepening entrenchment of voluntary donation practices throughout Saudi society.
The campaign’s effects reached patients and others needing blood and its components. More than 63,000 individuals benefited from blood units last year while approximately 10,000 received platelets and another 10,000 received plasma. Al-Jalajel affirmed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is promoting and strengthening the culture of voluntary donation as a sustainable community practice that contributes to enhancing people’s health.
The Saudi Press Agency noted that more than 900,000 people donated blood during 2025 as authorities worked to raise the share of voluntary donations and secure a sustainable national supply. These gains support the Health Sector Transformation Program and Saudi Vision 2030 goals of building a vibrant society with better health and quality of life. Blood banks recorded their highest-ever campaign totals in 2025 with the more than 65,000 donations.
Donation centers across the Kingdom continue to receive volunteers as the Ministry of Health improves access to services and their efficiency. Officials apply international best practices to guarantee sustainable supplies and bolster related national initiatives. The ministry has made appointments available both in person and through the Sehhaty application.
The current campaign builds directly on the one launched by the Crown Prince the previous year. It seeks to widen participation and reinforce voluntary donation as a routine community activity. Health officials have invited all eligible residents to contribute at approved facilities nationwide.
