The attacks occurred early on August 17 when two explosive-laden drones hit the prime minister’s private office and the residence of the director of the region’s security agency in Erbil’s Pirmam district. The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Directorate General of Counter Terrorism reported that the drones, identified as Hadid-110 models, were launched from Iranian territory. No casualties were recorded in the strikes according to the official KRG statement. The agency labeled the action as completely unacceptable and placed full responsibility for any consequences on the perpetrators.
Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani addressed the incident directly through the KRG website. He declared that the attacks would not deter his government from fulfilling its duties. Barzani added that the regional administration would continue protecting its citizens despite such incidents.
The Saudi statement further reiterated the kingdom’s firm rejection of interference in the internal affairs of states.
