The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly denounced the attack and rejected violence, terrorism and extremism in all forms, according to its official statement. The ministry expressed solidarity with Pakistan and offered sincere condolences to the government and people of the country. It extended sympathies to the families of the victims and wished the Pakistani people continued security and safety.
Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations reported that the assault took place on the night of July 23-24 in Tank district when terrorists rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall of a joint check post. The resulting blast damaged infrastructure at the site and claimed the lives of 12 military personnel along with two policemen and one government official from the forest department. Security forces responded immediately, eliminating 12 terrorists on the spot during the exchange, the military said in its briefing.
Figures from the Institute for Economics and Peace show that Pakistan recorded 1,139 terrorism deaths across 1,045 incidents in 2025, the highest annual total since 2013. The group’s Global Terrorism Index 2026 report found that just under 70 percent of all terrorism fatalities worldwide occurred in only five countries including Pakistan. The index attributed more than half of Pakistan’s terrorism deaths that year to Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.
The Muslim World League also condemned the bombing that targeted the security checkpoint, according to a statement issued on July 24 and carried by the Saudi Press Agency. The Makkah-based organization expressed its strong rejection of such terrorist acts against both security forces and civilians. It extended condolences to the families of those killed and to the people of Pakistan.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has figured prominently in Pakistan’s counterterrorism operations for years, with Inter-Services Public Relations releases detailing repeated militant attempts to destabilize the region. The military has frequently reported on efforts to secure borders and disrupt networks responsible for attacks like the latest vehicle-borne assault. Pakistani authorities continue to investigate the planning and sponsorship behind the incident that occurred earlier this week.
