The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement conveying its sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the government and people of Algeria over the tragic bus crash. In the announcement the ministry affirmed the Kingdom’s full solidarity with its brotherly nation during this difficult period. It further wished all those injured in the incident a speedy and complete recovery according to the official release.

King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman separately dispatched messages of condolence to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune the Saudi Press Agency reported. The royal communications expressed deepest sympathies to the president the victims’ families and the Algerian people as a whole. Both leaders also prayed for the swift recovery of the injured passengers.

The accident occurred on Friday when a passenger bus overturned and fell into a ravine near the coastal town of Boumerdes east of Algiers. Algeria’s civil protection department reported that at least 25 people lost their lives in the crash while dozens of others sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby medical facilities. Officials have not yet determined the cause of the incident that has drawn widespread attention across the region while Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb toured the site to speak with emergency workers.

Road safety authorities in Algeria indicated that traffic accidents claimed 3,838 lives and injured more than 37,000 people across the country last year. The figures underscore recurring hazards on the nation’s roads with Boumerdes marking the latest in a series of serious incidents. Comparable crashes took place the previous year including one near Algiers that killed 18 and another in Bechar that resulted in 14 deaths according to the same data.

The Saudi outreach forms part of coordinated international expressions of support with Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry stating it was deeply saddened by the loss of life and extending condolences to the families and people of Algeria as Anadolu Agency reported. Egypt conveyed its sincere condolences to Algeria over the victims of the bus accident through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Azerbaijan similarly offered deepest condolences to the government and people of Algeria over the tragic passenger bus accident in Boumerdes Governorate.
