The ministry said in the statement “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s welcome of the integration of SDF forces into the military institutions of the brotherly Syrian Arab Republic in a way that achieves security and stability for Syria and its brotherly people.” The statement reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s support for steps taken by the Syrian government to fulfill the aspirations of the Syrian people.
Saudi Arabia renewed its backing for the Syrian government’s path toward unity and development in the same statement from the Foreign Ministry. The Kingdom expressed wishes for Syria and its people to enjoy security peace and prosperity. This position follows the ministry’s welcome just one day earlier of the United States decision to remove Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism according to a separate Saudi Gazette report on that announcement.
Al Arabiya English reported that SDF Chief Mazloum Abdi announced on Tuesday the dissolution of the Kurdish-led group as an independent military force. The group was founded in 2015 to fight ISIS according to the outlet.
