Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser issued two decisions extending several regulatory deadlines for road transport establishments operating in heavy and light goods transport for commercial and non-commercial purposes as well as private passenger transport by buses. The new cutoff falls on February 27 2027 according to a report by Okaz newspaper on the official decisions. The extensions cover requirements under the Land Transport on Roads System and its implementing regulations with the Transport General Authority overseeing implementation across the sector.

The first decision grants additional time for establishments engaged in private passenger transport by buses to add newly introduced activity names to their commercial registers which serves as a prerequisite for licensing. These operators also received an extension to align their operations with all organizational requirements stipulated in the relevant system and its executive regulations. The move ensures continuity for bus services that form a key part of Saudi Arabia’s public mobility network.

A second decision addresses establishments in heavy goods transport for both commercial and non-commercial activities by extending deadlines to change vehicle registration types from private to public and to issue operational cards for vehicles. Light goods transport operators gained more time to complete issuance of professional driver cards and to rectify their status in line with the executive regulation governing the activity. These steps build directly on earlier TGA adjustments that had previously set an August 2026 target for many of the same requirements.

The decisions provide the affected establishments with extra time to finalize their procedural adjustments and achieve full alignment with the provisions of the Land Transport on Roads System according to the ministry’s announcement. Such alignment strengthens compliance with regulatory standards while supporting uninterrupted operation within the approved legal framework. The Transport General Authority has pursued successive extensions as part of its mandate to develop the land transport environment and elevate safety and efficiency levels.

Saudi Arabia maintains more than 73 000 kilometres of roads placing it among global leaders in connectivity according to Transport General Authority data. This extensive network underpins the kingdom’s logistics ambitions under Vision 2030 with ongoing regulatory refinements designed to modernise the sector. The latest deadline extension follows a series of TGA measures introduced earlier in 2026 including an April decision that had lengthened several compliance windows to August of that year.

The regulatory updates form part of a broader cabinet-approved land transport system aimed at integrating advanced technologies and improving sustainability across passenger and cargo activities a TGA assessment found. Operators in freight and passenger segments must still meet technical and operational conditions with violations subject to defined penalties under the law. The extension to February 2027 offers a final window for full adherence without disrupting current service delivery.
