The organizers of Expo 2030 Riyadh confirmed that Bahrain has signed the participation contract that sets the parameters for the kingdom’s involvement including its designated site and thematic contributions. This development follows a July site visit by Sheikh Khalifa Ahmed Al Khalifa, president of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, during which a joint theme and design workshop was launched with Expo technical teams. The contract signing marks the shift from initial planning to detailed execution for Bahrain’s exhibit according to an official statement from the Expo 2030 Riyadh account.
Bahrain first expressed support for the event in November 2023 when its Ministry of Foreign Affairs congratulated Saudi Arabia on securing hosting rights and pledged full backing for the international gathering. The July workshop brought together experts from both sides to align on content and presentation for the Bahrain pavilion. Such collaborative steps have become standard as the Expo moves toward construction phases across its six-million-square-meter site.
Expo 2030 Riyadh will run from Oct. 1 2030 to March 31 2031 under the theme Foresight for Tomorrow according to the official Expo 2030 Riyadh website. The event is projected to draw 42 million visits and convene more than 200 official participants a figure that includes countries and international organizations. A Bureau International des Expositions assessment placed the number of countries that had confirmed participation at more than 135 by June 2026.
France became the first nation to sign its participation contract in late August according to an Arab News report on the milestone event in Paris. That agreement followed the broader See Agreement signed between Saudi Arabia and the Bureau International des Expositions which establishes the legal and administrative framework for all participants. The See Agreement was approved by the BIE General Assembly in June and signed on the sidelines of a visit by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The participation framework covers pavilion design construction and operational requirements while offering facilitation on visas customs and mobility services for participating delegations. Bahrain’s involvement aligns with long-standing economic and cultural ties between the two kingdoms that have deepened through shared GCC initiatives. Similar contracts are expected to be finalized with additional nations in the coming months as site development accelerates.
Infrastructure contracts worth hundreds of millions of riyals have already been awarded for power substations utilities and early civil works according to recent announcements from Expo 2030 Riyadh. These packages involve Saudi contractors including Alfanar Projects and Nesma & Partners and aim to prepare the site well ahead of the 2030 opening. The overall project forms a central pillar of Saudi Vision 2030 efforts to position the kingdom as a global hub for investment and innovation.
