The General Directorate of Civil Defense announced early on Saturday that the potential danger in Riyadh and Al-Kharj had passed after an initial alert warned of a possible threat. The authority activated the notice through the National Early Warning Platform and called on citizens and residents to adhere to all official safety directives even after the stand-down. Officials stressed the need for vigilance as competent teams continued monitoring the situation closely.

During the alert residents were instructed to remain away from open spaces glass windows balconies and rooftops that might expose them to risk. Those outdoors at the time of the warning were directed to enter the nearest building or take cover behind a solid barrier while refraining from any gatherings or filming. The measures formed part of a standardized response designed to protect the public until authorities confirmed the threat had subsided.

This alert represented the first for the capital since the Iran-aligned Houthis intensified operations against Saudi Arabia Reuters reported. A correspondent for the agency heard two loud booms in Riyadh’s Olaya district during the episode. The warning came shortly after a Houthi military spokesperson claimed to have foiled unspecified attempts in Sanaa that he blamed on Saudi Arabia while promising a response.

The Houthis have stepped up strikes toward Saudi targets since announcing a naval blockade in July according to Reuters accounts. Civil defense teams have responded to several prior incidents in which intercepted projectiles scattered debris across residential neighborhoods in Riyadh and Al-Kharj. One March episode in Al-Kharj left two Bangladeshi nationals dead and 12 others injured after a military projectile struck a maintenance company site the Saudi Press Agency reported at the time.

Similar events in the capital have produced limited material damage along with minor injuries among residents prompting immediate implementation of approved emergency protocols. The General Directorate of Civil Defense has consistently described such targeting of civilian locations as a serious breach of international humanitarian law. Awareness efforts have sought to prepare the population for rapid compliance with alerts to reduce exposure during security incidents.

The National Early Warning Platform transmits messages to cellular devices using distinctive audio tones to ensure broad and immediate dissemination. Unified emergency lines including 911 in the Riyadh region and 998 elsewhere stand ready to handle reports at any hour. Authorities have urged the public to source all updates exclusively from official outlets and to disregard unverified claims that may spread during periods of tension.
