Saudi Aviation Authority Reports Three Injured in Southern Airport Attacks

The General Authority of Civil Aviation reported that King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Jazan and Najran International Airport came under attack on Monday evening. In its statement, the authority detailed that the strikes on airport facilities produced three minor injuries together with some property damage. Medical teams transported the wounded to hospital for care while emergency responders followed established protocols to contain the situation at both sites. The authority added that specialized teams had begun assessing the harm and would take all steps required to protect passengers, staff and the wider civil aviation network.

According to the authority, coordination with relevant security agencies formed a central part of the immediate response. The statement underlined ongoing efforts to verify the full scope of impact before restoring normal functions as quickly as possible. Officials stressed that passenger and staff safety remained the top priority throughout the response phase and that updates would follow as assessments progressed.

The incidents occurred against the backdrop of intensified fighting in Yemen, where Saudi-supported government troops pressed a major offensive to retake territory from the Houthis after recent rebel advances. Reuters reported that the Iran-backed group replied with missile and drone barrages aimed at various Saudi locations including airports, energy plants and military installations. A Houthi military spokesman claimed operations against multiple targets in the south on the same day, according to accounts carried by AFP that listed strikes on Abha airport, Khamis Mushait base and sites in Najran and Jazan among others.

Recent clashes have significantly worsened humanitarian conditions in Yemen, with the United Nations documenting the displacement of more than 184,000 individuals due to the latest round of violence. The conflict, which has persisted for over a decade, previously saw a truce that had reduced cross-border strikes until recent months. Saudi Arabia has increased its aerial support for Yemeni government forces in response to Houthi territorial gains near the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait, a move that has drawn retaliatory attacks on the kingdom.

The two airports lie in provinces bordering Yemen, areas that have experienced repeated targeting since the Saudi-led intervention began in 2015. Coalition data from earlier assaults, such as those recorded in September, showed dozens of civilian injuries from comparable Houthi operations across southern cities including Abha, Jazan and Najran. The authority’s latest update forms part of routine public notifications designed to maintain transparency on aviation security matters while operations continue.

In related developments, Pakistan and Turkey have committed troops to a mutual defence pact with Saudi Arabia to address the rising threats from Houthi actions. The broader regional tensions have also affected maritime routes, with the group imposing a declared blockade on Saudi shipping in the Red Sea that has forced rerouting of oil exports. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent further disruptions to commercial air travel in the southern region.
