Border Guard land patrols conducted multiple anti-smuggling operations across the southern provinces of Asir and Jazan that resulted in two arrests and the confiscation of substantial quantities of contraband. In one action, patrols seized 80.6 kilograms of khat while in another they recovered 31,500 tablets that fall under medical circulation regulations. The force detailed how the interdictions took place in specific sectors and formed part of routine border security measures along the kingdom’s southern frontier.
According to the Border Guard, land patrols in Asir’s Al-Rabwah Sector stopped a citizen who was attempting to smuggle 600 grams of khat into the country. The individual was taken into custody at the scene along with the seized material. Officials noted that this operation reflected ongoing vigilance in areas prone to cross-border trafficking attempts.
The Border Guard added that patrols in Jazan’s Al-Dair Sector arrested an Ethiopian border security violator who sought to smuggle 80 kilograms of khat. This seizure accounted for the bulk of the khat recovered across the two provinces on August 10. Initial procedures were completed swiftly following the arrest, the force reported.
In a related Jazan operation also within the Al-Dair Sector, Border Guard patrols thwarted an attempt to smuggle 31,500 tablets subject to medical circulation regulations. The contraband was fully secured and no further details on additional suspects in that specific case were released. All seized items from the three actions were transferred to the competent authorities together with those detained, according to the official account.
The authorities encouraged members of the public to share any information concerning drug smuggling or trafficking through established hotlines. Reports can be submitted by dialing 911 in Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh and the Eastern Province or 999 in other parts of the kingdom. Additional lines include 994 for the Border Guard and 995 for the General Directorate of Narcotics Control, with the option to contact the directorate by email as well.
The General Directorate of Narcotics Control has stated that every report will receive confidential handling and that those providing tips will face no liability for the information submitted. Such community engagement has supported previous border enforcement actions across the region. The Saudi Press Agency has documented comparable efforts, including one instance in which Jazan patrols foiled the smuggling of 255 kilograms of khat in the Al-Dayer area.
