The Saudi Ministry of Commerce directed the recall of 27,360 Chevrolet vehicles on August 10, 2026, citing a manufacturing defect in the driver-side airbag inflator. The ministry’s announcement identified the affected models as the Trax from 2010 to 2017, the Cruze from 2012 to 2018 and the Aveo from 2010 to 2017. Owners should check their vehicle identification numbers immediately through the official Recalls.sa website to confirm participation in the campaign.

Ministry officials stated that the defect may cause the inflator to rupture upon deployment, sending metal fragments toward vehicle occupants. The Saudi Ministry of Commerce has instructed all relevant parties to address the issue through free repairs at authorized facilities. General Motors, Aljomaih Automotive Company and Universal Motors Agencies will handle the replacements without charge to vehicle owners.

This latest action continues a pattern of vehicle safety interventions by the Saudi Ministry of Commerce, which recalled 5,309 Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac models in July 2025 for related airbag faults according to the ministry’s own records. The authority maintains an active monitoring program for automotive defects in the local market to safeguard consumers. Comparable campaigns have targeted other manufacturers in recent months, including multiple Land Rover recalls for similar airbag connector problems.

General Motors has encountered repeated airbag-related issues in its global fleet over the past decade. A 2016 campaign by the company addressed defects linked to at least one death and several injuries across millions of vehicles in the United States, a NBC News report from that period detailed. Additional recalls followed in 2023, when the automaker called back nearly one million crossovers for potential airbag failures as Car and Driver noted at the time.

The Saudi Ministry of Commerce emphasized that consumers must act on the recall notice to ensure their vehicles receive the necessary updates. Authorized service centers under the three designated agents stand ready to perform the work once owners schedule appointments. The ministry continues to update its recall database as new information emerges from manufacturers and regulators worldwide.
