The Saudi Press Agency reported that Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah affirmed the Kingdom’s participation this year in the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly carries a message of peace and justice. Prince Faisal bin Farhan traced the approach to the era of the Founder and through the reigns of the Kings of Saudi Arabia up to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. He noted that the Kingdom has always been at the forefront in laying the foundations of peace and promoting the principle of dialogue and peaceful solutions at all levels. Prince Faisal bin Farhan stressed that the Kingdom has always exerted and continues to exert every effort to establish just peace in the Middle East and in the world.
According to the statement to the Saudi Press Agency, Prince Faisal bin Farhan pointed to the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. “The Kingdom was among the founding states of the United Nations in 1945 and participated in its first conference,” he said. “It is also among the leading countries with a distinguished record in conflict resolution and peacemaking through the mediation efforts it undertakes, thanks to its wise policies and balanced relations with all parties, which have made the Kingdom a trusted international mediator within the international community.” The minister added that the Kingdom has been keen to spare no effort in translating the Charter of the United Nations into tangible reality through entrenching respect for international law, maintaining international peace and security, and supporting multilateral international cooperation channels in all fields.
The Saudi Press Agency conveyed that Prince Faisal bin Farhan reaffirmed the Kingdom’s constant efforts to end the suffering of the Palestinian people and to stop the ongoing cycle of violence. He specified that the Palestinian cause is at the forefront of the Kingdom’s priorities in all international forums. The foreign minister stressed that the Kingdom will spare no effort to achieve a just solution that begins with the realization of an independent State of Palestine and leads to the establishment of comprehensive and sustainable regional peace.
In his address to the General Assembly delivered days later, Prince Faisal bin Farhan noted that Saudi Arabia has provided over 141 billion US dollars in aid and assistance benefiting 174 countries, according to an Arab News report on the speech. The aid figure complements the diplomatic initiatives outlined in the earlier statement to the Saudi Press Agency. Arab News reported that the minister called for an end to Israeli aggression in Gaza during the assembly session. He warned that the failure of the international community to take firm actions would only cause further instability and insecurity regionally and globally.
The Saudi Press Agency statement highlighted Saudi Arabia’s role as a founding member of the United Nations in 1945. This status has informed the Kingdom’s consistent support for the organization’s charter principles over eight decades. Prince Faisal bin Farhan’s remarks preceded his full address to the 80th session where he reiterated priorities around multilateral cooperation.
Arab News coverage of the General Assembly speech indicated that Saudi Arabia co-chaired with France the High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine. The Kingdom also helped launch a coalition with Norway and the European Union to implement the two-state solution. These steps align with the message of peace and justice detailed in the September 20 statement to the Saudi Press Agency. The foreign minister’s comments underscored Saudi Arabia’s balanced relations as a foundation for its mediation work.
