The Expo 2030 Riyadh Company issued a progress report on July 7 that outlined substantial construction achievements at the 600-hectare site. Figures from the update show that 8 million cubic meters of excavation and backfilling have been completed along with 2 kilometers of the 7.5-kilometer main service corridor. The report additionally logged 2.1 million working hours without a lost-time injury, pointing to rigorous safety protocols in place. Preparations continue to accelerate with the global exposition less than five years away.

Environmental measures detailed in the company’s announcement included the safe relocation of 719 trees and reintroduction of 80 native creatures to appropriate habitats. These actions form part of a broader strategy to minimize the development’s ecological footprint in northern Riyadh. The site was selected in part for its potential to integrate with existing and planned urban infrastructure including a new metro station.

International dimensions of the preparations advanced through a cooperation pact signed with the organizers of Expo 2027 Belgrade. The company also introduced a Structured Knowledge Transfer and Observer Program designed to exchange expertise with past and future expo hosts. Such initiatives build on lessons from previous world fairs including the record attendance at Expo 2020 in Dubai which exceeded 24 million visitors according to official tallies from that event.

Riyadh was chosen to stage Expo 2030 during a November 2023 assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions. The six-month fair will revolve around the theme Foresight for Tomorrow and three subthemes encompassing transformational technology, sustainable solutions and prosperous people. Organizers anticipate hundreds of pavilions spread across the 6-million-square-meter grounds located 10 minutes from King Khalid International Airport.

Economic projections for the event are significant with one analysis by Tanmeya Capital estimating a total impact of 94.5 billion dollars on the Saudi economy. Sector reports indicate that as many as 40 million visitors could attend generating substantial revenue in tourism and related industries. The undertaking is expected to create more than 200,000 jobs during its development and operation phases according to multiple assessments of the project’s scale.
