Information and communication rose 5.4 percent, accommodation and food services 4 percent, construction 2.3 percent and wholesale and retail trade 0.6 percent even as mining contracted 10.9 percent.
On a monthly comparison the index declined 3.2 percent from May levels primarily due to a sharp 27.3 percent drop in mining output as detailed in the authority’s release. GASTAT also recorded a 9.1 percent year-on-year increase in the employees compensation index for the same period. This compensation growth reflects continued investment in the workforce across key economic sectors.
Building permits issued in the kingdom totaled 5,045 during June, marking a 20.3 percent increase from the 4,192 permits recorded in June of the previous year according to the General Authority for Statistics. The monthly change showed a slight 0.2 percent decline from the 5,056 permits issued in May. Earlier GASTAT reports for May had indicated significant fluctuations in permit issuance with a year-on-year decrease noted in some preliminary assessments.
