The center listed specific governorates including Al-Majaridah and Rijal Almaa in Asir along with Al-Ardiyat in Makkah as facing the highest threat level for the day.
Red classifications also extended to Al-Farshah and four additional sites in Asir plus Al-Mukhwah and three more locations in Makkah the NCM reported. Most of these alerts were set to run through Sunday evening with potential for intense precipitation that could trigger flash floods in vulnerable terrain. The platform indicated that such red alerts correspond to rainfall rates often exceeding 10 to 50 millimeters per hour in comparable forecasts from the center.
Seven orange alerts accompanied the red warnings with forecasts for moderate rain and periods of raised dust across additional sections of the affected regions according to the NCM. These intermediate alerts highlighted the need for caution as thunderstorms developed and visibility decreased in some zones. When combined with yellow alerts for lighter rain the total number of active warnings reached 31 the center’s figures show.
Moderate to heavy thunderstorms accompanied by hail active winds and the risk of flash floods were projected for parts of Jazan Asir Al-Baha Makkah and Madinah the National Center for Meteorology stated. The arid landscape in these areas makes them particularly susceptible to rapid water accumulation in wadis and low-lying spots.
